"The Danny Kaye Show "

Performer Danny Kaye said, “Life is a great big canvas; throw all the paint you can.”

During a career spanning fifty years, Kaye threw plenty of paint; he earned acclaimed as a performer of stage, screen, television, and radio, as well as through remarkable philanthropy. 

Beginning Friday August 6th, Boba Cabaret hosts The Danny Kaye Show, a comedic musical revue of material associated with the great performer.  The show is directed by and features Las Cruces High School theater teacher Charles LeCocq.

LeCocq will sing “Tchaikovsky,” the song that first made Kaye famous as he melodically spat out 54 Russian composers names in 38 seconds in Kurt Weill’s Lady in the Dark in 1941.  He’ll also sing “The Maladjusted Jester” from Kaye’s most lauded film role The Court Jester.

Soprano Ida Holguin, choir teacher at Lynn Middle School, will perform “I Do Not Know a Day I Did Not Love You” from Richard Rodger’s Two by Two.  In 1970 Kaye famously performed that as his final Broadway show, and after he hurt his hip appeared for ten months on crutches or in a wheelchair.

Joining Holguin for “Sisters” from White Christmas, is choreographer Lisa Clark. Clark will also dance to another tune from that classic film, “The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing.”

Rounding out the cast is William Zimmerman, singing and dancing “When a Felon’s Not Engaged in His Employment” from The Pirates of Penzance and “Wonderful Copenhagen” from Kaye’s beloved Hans Christian Anderson. Pianist Steve Helmreich (of Boba’s Til the Fat Lady Sings) will perform the first weekend.  Pianist Robert Randall (of Boba’s Musical of Musicals and Webber revue)will play the following weekends.

The show plays Friday and Saturday nights, August 6th -21st.  Dinner seats at 6pm with show time at 7pm.  Cocktail show seats at 8:15pm with show time at 8:30 pm.  Tickets for the dinner shows are $25 which includes a choice of appetizer, entrée, and beverage (beer and wine included).
